Musical Minds Community Outreach

Fostering a love of learning through accessible music education

About Us

Musical Minds Community Outreach is a student-driven volunteer organization at the University of Toronto. We strive to make music education more accessible to children and youth who may not otherwise have the means or opportunity to learn music. We know how much fun it can be to learn an instrument! Our enthusiasm stems from the understanding that skills fostered through lessons can have long-term benefits beyond our studio. We partner with families in the community to empower lasting confidence and to create a love of learning in children and youth.

Mission Statement

Social advocacy and leadership through music within the community and the University

Quality music education

Youth-youth mentorship and child development

Family-centred approach to learning

Appreciation and respect for diversity

Among others, we are grateful to the following organizations and businesses for their partnership, support, or donations:

University of Toronto Centre for Community Partnerships

United Way Toronto

Kiwanis Boys and Girls Clubs of Toronto

Fort York Food Bank

Regent Park School of Music

Long and McQuade Bloor West

Alexandra Park Community Centre

We offer weekly one-on-one music lessons in piano, guitar, violin, and voice every Saturday and Sunday at the University of Toronto St. George Campus. Lessons begin in October and run until April. Each April we give all of our students the opportunity to celebrate their hard work and growth with an end-of-year recital.

Please note that space in our program is limited. Should you be able to accommodate your child through professional music lessons, we recommend that you consider this option first. It is our priority to target our program towards children and families who would benefit the most.

Applications for the 2017-2018 school year will be accepted July through August 2017.

Contact for any enquiries and to request an application form.

Our instructors are a select group of energetic, dedicated youth volunteers from the University of Toronto and the surrounding community who share a passion for music and love working with kids. This team of individuals have all achieved their Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 or higher, have formal education in music theory, and have experience working closely with children. Our team's leadership has been recognized by the University of Toronto Office of the Vice-Provost's Arts Engagement Leadership Awards.

We are recognized by Ulife and The Co-Curricular Record (CCR), and we are always recruiting enthusiastic instructors. If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you!
